This spring, as the Yin season shifts to Yang season in the Solar calendar on February 4, 2023, favorable changes are to be expected on many different levels.
In Feng Shui, there are nine twenty-year time cycles. A predominant energy affects each of those periods. We are nearing the end of cycle eight, which has been strong with male earth influences, and approaching the new cycle of period nine, which starts next year with many different influences, including feminine fire energies.
It’s time to let go of the old and welcome new energies and opportunities into your spaces to enhance your environment and life.
One of the most effective ways to clear out stagnant energies is cleaning, eliminating clutter, organizing, fixing any broken items or discarding them, and recycling and donating what no longer serves you or feels right. Find a home and meaning for the items you’re keeping and feel your space expanding and changing.
Beneficial Feng Shui has a smooth flow of life force energy or Chi in any space, inside or out. For people it creates a feeling of balance, well being and harmony. Prosperity and unexpected opportunities start to show up in good energy flow.
The five Feng Shui elements are Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal, listed in the order of creative cycle. These elements as associated with life aspects such as career and opportunities, knowledge and self cultivation, family, wealth, fame and reputation, relationships, creativity and children, benefactors and traveling, and health. When in balance, the elements create “Good Feng Shui”—balance and harmony, a sense that things are going smoothly, and feelings of joy, enjoyment and well being.
Obstacles in any part of your life indicate that there’s an imbalance in energy flow. Too little or too much of a certain energy is affecting the flow.
This energy flow can be adjusted by the proper use of elements, removing or adding, to balance the situation.
Lo Shu is a grid divided into nine squares, one in the center and others to represent cardinal compass directions. Each direction and number is correlated to one of the five elements mentioned earlier.
The Flying Stars method follows the movement of stars to find energies for positive and negative, as they change locations each year.
Also, monthly moving stars and their combination with the energies of yearly stars have an effect.
The period eight stars remain in place until next year and have some effect on yearly and monthly energies.
Bagua or the nine-section grid can be imposed on a floor plan. The grid helps to divide the space according to the elemental energies and star locations in a space. The bottom of the grid faces North.
In buildings this year, the beneficial star locations are Center (4), West (6), North (9) and South (8). It’s good to spend time in these areas or rooms and even enhance the energies with Feng Shui elemental adjustments.
My office is located in West and Southwest, where the good stars (1 water) and (6 metal) are prevailing this year. I am enhancing the positive energies with natural crystals and live plants, images of water, and so on. Also, I am adding adjustments (metal in this case) with colors of grays, whites and gold in pillows and furniture in the Southwest to eliminate the negativity of the star 5 in period eight, which is coming to an end and weakening.
This year the areas of Northwest and East should be kept quiet, avoid construction or any activation. Metal accessories and colors of metal and white can reduce the energy of yearly (5) and (2) earth stars.
Each person has a specific Gua number that is calculated from their birthday. In conjunction with their Nine Star Ki, it lets us know the best locations and directions for that person in any space for facing, sleeping, sitting, working, and so on.
Nine Star Ki is based on astrology and lets us know how time affects us. There are three stars that represent each person’s Nine Star Ki, based on their birth date. It helps us determine what elements are considered supportive and to analyze compatibility in a relationship, Chinese astrology and Zodiac signs.
There are many balancing and enhancement options for adjusting the flow of energy in Feng Shui. It’s best to have your cleaning, clearing, fixing and adjustments in place by February 4.
